The sky was still dark with the rain that had just passed, and I was walking along the muddy farm road when I turned to see a pair of trees standing alone in the field. Their leaves were just beginning to turn, and their colors bounced down into the fresh puddles. I’d finished a painting earlier, but was pretty unhappy with it, so I pulled it out and just started painting on top, leaving little patches of cadmium to show through.
