Midsummer this year has been incredibly hot, and I knew I wanted to get some of the early morning shadows out at Goldmine. I hiked further upstream than ever before, mostly in shade, but by 9 AM the sun was beating down wherever there was a gap in the foliage. It was so bright that even reflected off the rocks it illuminated the fallen trees like a neon sign. The canvas was a failed plein air from a couple years ago, so that underpainting plus the palette knife work made for a really nice collection of textures.
